About 5 years ago i was living in Atlanta, i was working as a retail sales associate, i was living with my sister and some girl, in an apartment. We lived together for about a year and then my sister moved back to New York, then after, this girl i was dating and i moved in to another apartment by ourselves, i was working a lot and paying almost all the bills, i got sick of living paycheck to paycheck. So like anyone in their right mind would do, i jumped on my computer and started RESEARCHING!
I began to read a lot about, the economy, politics, the stock market, Gold & silver, businesses etc... this led me to invest a little bit in the stock market, gold & silver as well... and although i really didn't make any money, in fact i lost about 200$ in total, all of this research led me to a ton of great sources. These sources provided great advice, whether daily articles to read about money saving tips or youtube videos about self improvement, i found myself investing more time in myself to make myself a better person.
One source however stuck out better than most, i can't remember the guys name, but here is his website SmartknowledgeU .... his website might overwhelm you so i highly recommend checking out his youtube channel first, he has a lot of great videos where he sort of mentors people about a lot of different things. One video in particular stood out the most though, one video that i watched one time and said, wow... this is so true, i need to try this!
DISCONNECT FROM SOCIAL MEDIA - FROM TECHNOLOGY*
*Before i say a few things about this, i want to clear up that if you're like me, someone who actually needs social media to network for a cause and for work, then this may not be ideal for you, however you can always try it. I did and it worked really well for me.
Perfect example: I myself started did this back 2 years ago when i found myself practically addicted to social media networks. The idea was to spend less time on social sites, and more time investing on myself, whether self-improvement, or building my knowledge on something I've always wanted to learn or spend more time studying to get my grades up. What i did was i would keep track of how many times a day i would log on or take my phone out and use these apps or sites. My outcome was; roughly 2-3 hours a day ( spread out throughout the day ) 7 days a week = 14-21 hours a week! 672-1,008 hours a year!
What does all of this mean? that means i am literally wasting 1 full day a week on practically nothing...
Think about all that time you can use to do something productive!
Not only is there an intellectual benefit, but when i did this, i felt happier, i was giving more time to myself, i was doing more of what i wanted to do, i was eating healthier, i was spending more time with family and friends and being more social, but realistically social
- Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr, Pintrest etc... anything you spend a lot of time on, liking pics, sharing pics or stories... anything social media network that you use more than a couple of times a day you should take a break from
- Do i have to Delete my account? No! of course not, you worked hard for your followers... simply delete the app and try not to log in for some time
MY "DISCONNECT" LASTED FOR ABOUT 4 MONTHS OFF OF INSTAGRAM AND ABOUT 6-7 MONTHS OFF OF FACEBOOK... YOU DONT HAVE TO DO IT FOREVER OR DELETE YOUR ACCOUNT, JUST DELETE THE APPS AND DO NOT LOG IN FOR SOME TIME, TRY 1 MONTH OR 3 MONTHS EVEN... JUST TRY IT... TRUST ME
