Best Restaurant In Aruba

This is a long overdue post, i mean a couple of months overdue haha, but it is now 1:23am and i am focused enough to write this thing up so here it goes. Before i begin i just want to say that this is purely based on my personal opinion, many will argue with me on this and thats ok. However i am pretty confident that this restaurant i am writing about is truly the best on the island.

AG RINCON CRIOLLO

SAVENTA, ARUBA

Back in May of 2015 i took a 2 week trip to Aruba. During that trip i was alone for the first two days in which i took it upon myself to see as much of the island as i possibly could. On the second day i rented a car and made my way towards Baby Beach which is located in Sint Nicolaas. On my way there i spotted what appeared to be a cuban flag on a building, immediately i started to feel hungry but did not bother to stop, instead i had my lunch at some bar on the beach which was pretty cool. Long story short, the next day i decided to stroll around that area again and have some lunch there.

LOCATION:

AG RINCON CRIOLLO is located in the middle of the island, in Saventa. If you take the 1A i believe, southbound towards Saint Nicholas you'll see if on your left hand side across the street from "Fish Bowl". If you're in Saint Nicholas take the 1B Northbound towards Oranjestad and it will be on your right hand side.

It is located in a residential part of the island, away from all the big tourists areas and tall buildings or hotels. At a glance the area may seem run down or unsafe but i had no issues at all and the people around were very friendly.

BUILDING:

The building itself is beige in color and wears red, white and blue on some parts of the building to represent the Cuban flag. There is a Cuban flag painted on the building and there is a sign as well with the flag. It does not look fancy or modern at all, heck it barely looks like a restaurant. if it wasn't for the word "restaurant" i would not have guessed...

However do not let this discourage you.

STAFF:

Once i walked in i seated myself. The place itself seats about 40-45 people i would say. The place was empty except for 3 people which 2 of them worked there and one was a delivery guy. My initial thought was that this place was gonna suck because i was not greeted for about 5 min, however i didn't let that bother me much because the owner was receiving his delivery.

Once he was ready he walked over and apologized for the wait and handed me a menu and a glass of cold water. It appears he is the only one who takes the orders and brings out the food. He is a very nice guy, probably in his late 50s. As i waited for my food we had a long conversation about Cuba and Aruba.

FOOD:

Now for the good stuff. I took the time to copy the menu for you. You're welcome :P

Mojito Cubano

AG RINCON CRIOLLO is one of those places where you don't really expect much of it. However once you're inside conversing with the staff and eating the food you realize its absolutely amazing. I can't remember exactly what i ate, but the owner had recommended a nice steak dish, it may have been the Uruguayan Steak.

Every dish comes with your choice of either white rice or Moro Rice. Moro rice is a traditional cuban rice which is simply; White rice mixed with Cuban black beans. Im not much of a bean person but just for the sake of getting that full authentic feel, i went with the moro rice, and it was delicious! You also get French Fries, fried plantains, a small salad and a Papa.

No, not a father. Cuban Papa served at Ag Rincon Criollo is very delicious, i can't even tell you whats in it because i don't even know, i didn't bother to ask, all i know is that its potato with something inside and its freaking good.

I highly recommend the Cuban Mojito, it is truly the best mojito i had on the island, and quite possibly ever.

The overall experience was good, i had good conversation with the owner and hearing his stories of Cuba while having Celia Cruz music playing just added that much more to the authentic Cuban vibe that the restaurant offers. In fact i was so pleased that i went back for dinner on my last night in Aruba, and i even brought the whole family with me :P.

The prices are good too. My first eat in i spent about 17$ total. The family dinner was about 72$ for 4 adults and 2 kids, and everybody ate ALOT! I had the Cuban Sandwich, which i highly recommend, but watch out because its huge. I only ate half and took the rest home.

ALL IN ALL, THE RESTAURANT IS A MUST IF YOURE IN ARUBA. I ATE AT IGUANA JOES, SMOKEY JOES, AND A FANCY ITALIAN RESTAURANT THAT HAS AN AMAZING VIEW OF ORANJESTAD, SITTING UP HIGH NEXT TO THE CALIFORNIA LIGHT HOUSE, AND THEY CANNOT COMPARE TO AG RINCON CRIOLLO.
